Game Design Academy® created Pixel Game Lab to help students learn game design, digital art, storytelling, animation, level design, and creative problem-solving in a fun, age-appropriate way.
Schools can bring Pixel Game Lab to their students through a school licensing option, or through a Game Design Academy-led program at your school.
License Pixel Game Lab and use it with your own enrichment, art, technology, media, or after-school teachers. A visual, no-coding-required way for students to create games, perfect for schools building their own game design, digital art, STEAM, or creative media program. Available to schools beyond our local in-person service area.
Our team runs a game design program directly at your school as an enrichment, after-school, workshop, or camp-style experience, bringing the curriculum, tools, materials, and devices. A ready-to-run program with no extra planning for your teachers.
Pixel Game Lab turns screen time into creative time. Students are not only playing games, they are designing characters, creating stories, building worlds, solving problems, testing ideas, and completing projects they can share with others.
Many professional game engines are too complicated for younger students. Pixel Game Lab was designed to make game creation more accessible for elementary and middle school students.
Students do not need coding experience to start. They can begin with drawing, characters, stories, and level design, then build complete playable games step by step, visual, creative, and structured so teachers can introduce game design in an age-appropriate way.
Pixel Game Lab is designed with kids and schools in mind: games are reviewed before being published in the Game Catalog, accounts under 18 cannot make purchases directly, and there is no open chat. It supports many types of school programs:
Schools and programs get their own private Education Portal, a login-only dashboard where admins and teachers run classes from start to finish. With your own portal login you can:
Students sign in on their own devices with the class code, no personal email or extra data required, and work only on what you assign. Everything they create stays private to your class until you choose to share it.
